The Ice Queen by Ciuva The Ice Queen by Ciuva
It's done!! I never thought it would happen.

So, after some days of intensive work, a break for intense studying and then dragging myself to the computer to at least finish the wolf today, I finished it. The background isn't super-detailed, because it's... snow. I know snow ain't purple, but come on. White is so boring =P

The thing falling from her hand is snow too, magical snow. There should probably be some reflective lightning here and there, but I'm not sure... As you can see, I took away her shawl from the WIP version - I originally planned to add a cloak of some sort, but ended up with nothing. I think it looks just as good. Probably a bit cold, though.

She is the Ice Queen, the ruler of the icy lands of the north. She is the one that gives the snow, that makes the winter come. Together with her wolf, she walks the land and works her magic. The first snow of the winter, the intense snow storms in the mountains, the icy chill during the winter days.

Too tired for my usual long-winded descriptions (this is pretty long too, but not of the usual kind) so I'll just hope you like it :)

I love the wolf! And you're right, white is boring. Purple rocks.
I only think a more creative hairstyle would've done her good. Or am I just being cliche? :D

No, definitely not cliche, but quite helpful. I fully agree, as usual =P I don't really have much confidence in drawing different hairstyles, unfortunately (which is weird, because I always experiment when I do pencil drawings...)

This picture deserves a lot more attention! I love the details you put into this! The fur on the wolf looks superbed! very realistic and flowy, going the right way real fur does. (as in it doesn't all go in one direction put in severeal) The snow powdering his paws was a nicely added detail. The face of the Ice Queen is awsome! Looks like an authentic oil portrait, as if someone were right in front of you when you did the picture.

Next paragraph, so it doesn't hurt your eyes. The detail in the blouse of hers look great! They looks like little sparkles, and you can easily tell its quite tight on her. The folds in her dress look very believeable, as if she's going forward, so the folds would tend to try to go underneath her. The patterns in her sleeves are a detail not missed either.

Now for the background. I think the purplish hue you added to the snow makes it look more magical and prettier, really. White snow can be very boring to draw. The sky is full of mountain clouds, which look realstic and the castle(?) is so detailed, you can easily see the glossiness of it, watching the light bounce off them delicatly.

The magical snow she is producing looks marvelous, although I think it would have looked better without the little 'flakes' added to it, and just little sparkles or a powder of the snow. Otherwise, this was marvelously done! Keep up the grand work, even if you have an art block!

Thank you for the great comment, it has really made my day :)

I agree about the magical snow, the flakes do seem a little unnatural - I am playing with the thought of redoing that part of the picture, although I'm not sure if I can get around to it.

Especially glad you like the wolf, as it was a first-timer for me.

some very lovely work here. although the detailing on the bodice throws such stark contrast on how plain the rest of her dress is. but it still looks quite nice.

Yes - I wasn't really sure what to do with the rest of the dress, but it looked too plain without the detailing. I thought about adding some more detail on the sleeves, but never got around to it, I guess. Painting dresses is still scary, though :)

I really like the snow. :D I'm glad you didn't do it white because the snow would reflect the sky. :)

The shading on the dress/cloak/robe is stunning! I love it! aaaaaaand then there's a wolf!?! wow, love the eye's and the fur on him...AND I love the his big paws and nose and ears...everything is just right! the porportions are good...wow...and I thought you said you were just starting to paint bodies!?!?! this looks like your a seasoned pro! :D

:D Aww, thanks  I used a lot of reference for the wolf's pose, but I'm really relieved I managed to get the fur good. I've never ever painted fur before. I worked hard on this one though, and I think the arms of the woman have been moved around to nearly all possible angles before I found the right one =P Same thing with the dress. Glad it works with the purple - the background colour of the WIP was purple, so I decided to work from that colour. Wouldn't seem right to then take the colour away when everything was adjusted to it.
