Edit: I've found the part of the original story where Rhevôin are. Is anyone interested in reading it? Because if people are, then I can translate and upload that part of the story. Personally I like it, but I can't guarantee that it's actually as good as I remember it, or that you'll like it. What do you think? (I'd prefer that you send a note, but if you want to answer here, then do it.)

(End of edit)

*sigh* I had planned to find the passage from the original book where this woman, in this place, appeared, because I really liked it. But then I can't find it. Couldn't find it at home either, and I can't find the papers on which I wrote the first half by hand all those years ago. I'm afraid I might have thrown them away because I was sure I had them on the computer. Oh no, can't be that lucky! I think it probably is gone forever *sniff* Nevermind that that story doesn't even appear in any other of my writings since I revised it. Oh well. Done is done.

Anyway. In the beginning of that book, Shanouna and Ceredi, the two main characters, had just met, and they reached a forest. It had tall, almost ancient trees, and the ground was misty. They found themselves lost in there, the paths seemed to move and they disappeared behind them. Wherever they walked/rode they seemed to find themselves somewhere else. However they were going steadily in one direction - inwards to the centre of the forest, the one place they did not want to go and the one place they had been warned against.
In the end, they ended up in front of a castle, hidden away in the forest. It was a large, closed castle with no sign of life. Hesitantly, they walked towards it - whoever it was that called them, they might just get the confrontation - which seemed inescapable - over with. The heavy gates in the outer wall opened by themselves. They rode into the empty space between the inner and the outer walls - not a soul was to be seen. Then suddenly they saw a figure standing by the main door, clad in a blood red dress. The witch. (This is far from how it originally was written, just to have that clear).

The woman was Rhevôin, a witch living in the middle of the Unicorn Forest. Or the Forest of the Unicorns, I'm still not sure how to translate it. The forest is bewitched and does her bidding, and so is the castle. She drew them to her place by her willpower and magic - even though she could not compete with Shanouna's powers in a pure sorcery duel, her magic comes from the earth itself and that same earth is something she has more power over than anyone else except the gods. She is, by the way, on their side, close to nature as she is, and her rumour as dangerous and wicked is something the frightened villagers around the forest have come up with.

Red isn't a very earthly colour, but that is her colour, that and forest green. She is the queen of her forest, something her dress reflects (or should reflect). The red stands for fire, as does the patterns and embroideries on her clothing. Exactly why is something for another time. The pink/red stuff is mist/fog that constantly covers the ground in the inner parts of the forest.

The background isn't particularly refined, but I think it's okay. I had no clue what to put there before I thought through the story once more, and I was tired of painting trees. Started this a long time ago, and it was originally of a hunter/scout crouching behind something on a hilltop (that's what I planned, at least) and then I turned it into a standing figure. Anyway. Another step on the way to finishing up my pictures, and another picture in my WIP list (see scraps) can be crossed out.

woowowow, love the dress! Damn I wish I could wear that to my prom! :D
Her face is so different to what you usually do, more delicate and round. :) The eyes stand out and make her seem so interesting. And the hair...i want hair like that. All red and stuffs! :D
Great job on this one!
